I’m rolling in my hot dog cart, they are vegetarian but will definitely appeal to all. I’ve had this surprise up my sleeve for quite a while and had to share them at my generous friend Angie’s weekly Fiesta Friday Party over @ Angie’s home, the Novice Gardener
Being a vegetarian I’ve always been intrigued by the wonder of the famous hot dog..everyone loves them so. I too adore the aroma of the sweet fried onions when it wafts in the streets when I’m shopping on a busy Saturday afternoon in town. So here I recreate the feeling I always have to devour these and now a vegetarian option! So excited!
The next step for me is to make my own vegetarian sausages. If anyone has a recipe please feel free to link it up to the post! This time I couldn’t resist but to buy these soya based Frankfurters..they are just so tasty. I hope you all enjoy these hot dogs and here’s to a gorgeous weekend for us all! Much love, D x
INGREDIENTS
For the chilli
1 tsp smoked paprika
3 cloves garlic crushed
1/4 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp salt or to taste
100g tomato crushed passata
200g frozen soya mince
1 large white onion sliced into crescents
Drop of balsamic vinegar
Pinch of sugar
2 tsp sunflower oil
Pre prepared vegetarian sausages
Grated cheddar cheese
Tomato ketchup
Mustard
Hot dog rolls
METHOD
Heat up 1 teaspoon of oil in a medium saucepan, sauté the garlic with the smoked paprika for 2 minutes
Pour in the tomato passata, sprinkle in the seasoning and cumin powder, simmer for 5 to 7 minutes
Stir in the mince, cover and simmer on a low for 15 minutes
In a shallow frying pan heat up a little oil, stir fry the onion with the balsamic vinegar and sugar until the onion is soft and browned
Quorn Frankfurters for me and Linda Mc Cartney vegetarian sausages for the boys!
Assembling the veggie chilli cheese hot dog
Slice the roll longways, spoon in some of the chilli, place 1 or 2 sausages onto the chilli, smother with the onions and cheese. Add mustard and ketchup and enjoy!
I’m not a big hot dog fan, but those do look good!
Thank you so much!
I love how you are so creative with tofu and soy – i would never have imagined that you could re-create this in a vegetarian way. Brilliant Dimple, as usual xx
Thank you honey…I just had to try a hot dog xx
I am tempted by hot dogs too. I tried a veggie version once and it tasted like mud. Your combination of chilli is adding the right flavour to spice it up, Dimple. Must try!
I hope you enjoy it..you can even make it spicy or use different veggie flavoured sausages!
They look fab honey ☺️☺️ have you got your mustard and ketchup squeezy bottles at the ready, I think you’ll have a line of guests wanting to try these out!! X
All stocked up! Come on over everyone! X
Got your paper hat and apron??
Oops no! Let me fetch go that lol x
Ha ha!
I know what you mean about craving the smell! I sometimes give in to temptation when vacationing at my brother’s place on the Oregon coast (Manzanita) “where they have the best “dogs” at Manzanita Mud Dog’s (plus they donate proceeds to charity – win, win)! Happy eating this weekend!
Ummm Stacey…they sound really good! Hope you had a beautiful weekend!
Drooling….seriously drooling! Need to look for Quorn hotdogs here…not seen any yet. Have a lovely weekend ahead! xx
Thank you darling…I have plenty..come on over xx
Great! I’m hopping on the next flight! 😉 xx
Oh yum. It looks delicious, Dimple. I would have loved this- don’t think we get good soy sausages around here. I am so going hunting for these to make this chilli cheese hot dog!
Thanks A! Enjoy x
How’s your hot dog cart doing?? You getting hot in the steam yet?
All the hot dogs are gone! 😉
Better make some more for the stragglers!!!
Ok! Honey!! 😉
Hee hee xx
These look good, and what a surprise that Linda McCartney has her name on that label. I imagine she must, she was quite a vegetarian/vegan fan.
Yes the company is named after her and her vegetarian ethos..They have some great products…
These look great, Dimple! Detroit is known for it’s chili dogs and I must say I’ve had more than my fair share of them over the years. Your version looks delicious! Love your traditional hot dog replacements. 🙂
Thanks Nancy…wow that is so cool! I’ve never had one so had to create one close enough…It’s all the brilliant US food shows we get here that make me crave them x
To tell you the truth, I have not been attracted the smell of hot dogs, but how you made these look so similar is amazing! We get something called Tofurkey here, I suppose that could be used.
Thank you Apsara x
